Align one arch.
Stabilize the other.
Then switch.
Jaw By Jaw™ divides two-arch clear-aligner treatment into sequential stages. During each stage, one dental arch is actively aligned while the opposite arch is stabilized and used as an additional reference and support structure.
Once the planned position of the first arch has been reached, it is stabilized and the roles of the arches are reversed.
Arch One Anchoring Arch
One treatment. Two coordinated stages.
The sequence is planned digitally according to the individual diagnosis and treatment objectives. The clinician determines the required movements, stabilization and timing for each stage.
Plan
Both dental arches and their intended relationship are evaluated as parts of the same treatment strategy.
Move
One arch is actively aligned with clear aligners according to the planned sequence of tooth movements.
Stabilize
The opposite arch is stabilized and can serve as an additional reference and support structure.
Switch
After the first treatment stage, the roles of the dental arches are reversed.
The upper arch moves.
In the first treatment stage, the upper teeth are actively aligned with clear aligners while the lower dental arch is stabilized.
Then Switch.
Once the first arch reaches its planned treatment position, the active phase for that arch ends. It is stabilized and becomes the reference structure for the next stage of treatment.
The lower arch moves.
In the second treatment stage, the already aligned upper arch is stabilized. The lower teeth are now actively aligned with clear aligners.
Connecting the moving arch with the stabilized arch.
SyncSplint® is individually designed for the corresponding treatment stage and is used together with clear aligners.
Within the Jaw By Jaw™ concept, it allows the stabilized arch to participate as an additional interarch reference and support structure while the opposite arch undergoes planned tooth movement.
Both stages are planned together.
Sequential treatment does not mean independent treatment. The desired relationship between both arches is considered from the initial analysis through the final treatment stage.
Initial Analysis
Tooth positions, arch relationships and individual treatment objectives are evaluated before treatment begins.
Digital Planning
The movements and stabilization required during each stage are incorporated into the treatment strategy.
Stage Evaluation
Progress can be evaluated before transitioning from the first moving arch to the second.
3DDA Follow-up
Digital model archiving and superimposition can support documentation and comparison between treatment stages.
Two arches. One coordinated result.
The objective is not simply to finish two individually aligned dental arches. The clinician plans the final relationship between them with consideration for tooth position, smile esthetics and function.

Function
Every Jaw By Jaw™ treatment is clinician-directed.
The sequence of treatment, the arch selected for the first active stage, the planned tooth movements, the use of retainers and SyncSplint®, and the timing of the transition between stages are determined individually by the treating clinician according to diagnosis and treatment objectives.
One Moving Arch.
One Anchoring Arch.
